EVERWEST DEVOTIONAL #19 | Led by the Spirit

Scripture

“For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” — Romans 8:14 (NIV)

Reflection

From the beginning, I’ve had two main goals for Everwest. First, to build a company that glorifies God in everything we do. Second, to be led by the Spirit in how we build it.

That second goal comes straight out of Romans 8:14: “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” My desire is that every decision, big or small, would come from seeking God first rather than simply doing what I want or what the world says businesses should do.

As I’ve mentioned in past devotionals, the reason these devotionals exist in the first place was simple: obedience. When God laid it on my heart to launch Everwest focused on Him, I felt called to testify to what He was doing along the way. To document the journey. To point back to Him anytime something good came from it.

So when I first sat down to write, I started thinking through all the ways I had already seen God working, calling me to leave my job, giving me the idea for Everwest, guiding decisions, opening doors, and shaping my heart through the process. The stories started flowing faster than I expected. In about four hours, I had written fourteen devotionals. Since then, I’ve written a few more as God has continued to show up in ways I couldn’t have planned.

But at this point, I’ve shared most of the moments where I’ve clearly seen the Holy Spirit working through me and through this company. And because of that, I don’t plan to continue posting devotionals every single week.

That doesn’t mean God has stopped working, far from it. As I continue building Everwest, leaning on Him rather than my own understanding, I fully expect that He will keep moving in ways I could never imagine. And when He does, I’ll write about it and share it here. That might be weekly. It might be monthly. It might be once a year. But whenever God reveals something worth sharing, I want to testify to His goodness.

Because the goal has never been to produce devotionals on a schedule. The goal has always been to follow the Spirit.

Building a company this way is different from what the world typically teaches about business. The world says to trust your instincts, move fast, chase opportunity, and control the outcome. But Scripture continually points us in another direction, to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7), and to trust that God is working behind the scenes in ways we cannot see.

That’s the path I want Everwest to follow. Not my plan. Not the world’s blueprint. But wherever the Spirit leads. More updates to come.

Application

As followers of Christ, we are invited to live lives led by the Spirit in every area, our work, our relationships, our decisions, and the quiet moments no one else sees. Being led by the Spirit doesn’t always mean having every step clearly mapped out, but it does mean choosing to seek God first, trusting His guidance above our own understanding. As you go through your days, make space to listen for His direction through prayer and Scripture, and be willing to follow where He leads. When we surrender our plans and pursue His will, we begin to see Him work in ways we never could have orchestrated ourselves.

Prayer

Father, thank You for inviting us to be led by Your Spirit. Teach us to trust You more than our own understanding and to walk by faith, not by sight. Shape our hearts so that our desires align with Your will and give us the courage to follow wherever You lead. May our lives reflect Your goodness and bring glory to You in everything we do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
